Position Description: The technical director is responsible for managing the technical aspects of show development and implementation. The position oversees the construction of show sets, maintains the lighting and sound systems and ensures that all the technical aspects of show production are successfully implemented. These activities are over seen by the Artistic Director and this position reports to the Artistic Director.
Responsibilities:
Develop the sets for all shows at the Playhouse:
- Coordinates and collaborates with the Artistic Director the design and execution of scenic construction
- Obtains the materials for set construction
- Maintains the tools and equipment used for set construction
- Oversees the construction and disassembly of all sets
- Organizes scenic shop & technical booth
Manages the volunteer crew that builds and strikes show sets:
- Obtains and manages volunteers for the construction crew
- Maintains a database of all volunteers involved in set construction
- Schedules set construction and volunteer involvement
Manages Playhouse sound system
- Ensures that the sound system is working properly
- Coordinates repairs and upgrades to sound systems
- Identifies upgrades for the sound systems and prepares a proposed budget for upgrades
- Obtains and coordinates Volunteer Sound technicians for stage shows
Manages Playhouse lighting system
- Ensures that the lighting system is working properly
- Coordinates repairs and upgrades to lighting systems
- Identifies upgrades for the lighting systems and prepares a proposed budget for upgrades
- Develops lighting designs for stage shows
- Obtains and coordinates volunteer lighting technicians for stage shows
Supervisor:
- Reports to the Artistic Director
