The year is 1934, and the Cleveland Grand Opera Company is primed to welcome world famous Tito Merelli, Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Otello. But through a series of mishaps, Merelli is found in his bed less than an hour before curtain, overdosed on tranquilizers. In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, general manager Saunders and his assistant Max devise a strategy to fool the audience into thinking Il Stupendo is on stage anyway!
LEND ME A TENOR, the farce by Ken Ludwig, will not only be the hilarious start to Surfside Players’ 56th crowd-pleasing season, but an important milestone for director Bryan Bergeron: his 200th mainstage show directed!
Many thanks to Craig Rubadoux and Lyn Dowling of Florida Today, who went behind the scenes to cover our show! Article and Video
