Dance Performance Workshop

Tuesdays 6:00-8:00pm and Saturdays 12:00-2:00pm

Program Starts April 3rd at 6:00pm

Public Performance on Saturday, June 23, 8:00pm

Surfside is proud to offer an 11-week specialized dance training class for the theatre with Gotta Dance!  Our teacher, Paulette Bethel, has 35 years of dance and choreography experience.  She has owned several dance studios in Miami and has choreographed and directed over 20 cabaret shows.  Paulette teaches dance classes at the Cocoa Beach Fitness Center and the City of Cocoa Beach Recreational Center.  She and her husband have also volunteered in set construction with Surfside Players for the past two years.

"My workshop is for adults and teens over 15 years old who are either actively performing in the theatre, or would love to learn.  After choreographing the show SHOUT! at Surfside Playhouse, I noticed that time is very limited for rehearsals.  There are only 3 - 4 weeks for rehearsal time [onstage before Tech Week] which has to be shared between acting, musical direction, choreography, set design and costuming.  I felt that it would be beneficial for the actors if they had the tools beforehand which would help the director as well.”

Participants don't need to be professional or trained dancers.  Dancing is basically acting in motion!  Here are some of the things they will learn in the workshop:

  1. How to perform as an ensemble
  2. How to project energy and emotion with their bodies
  3. How to dance with props (i.e. hats, canes and chairs)
  4. How to follow a choreographer and interpret music
  5. How to dance with a partner

and much, much more!

Cost of the workshop is $225.  Every student performs in the Dance Show on Saturday,June 23rd at 8:00pm!
